About Proposition 65

California's Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, requires businesses to provide warnings about exposures to chemicals on a list maintained by the State of California. The list includes more than 900 substances, some of which occur naturally in everyday foods.

Herbs, spices, and other agricultural ingredients are grown in soil, and plants naturally absorb trace amounts of minerals from that soil, including lead. Because of this, many spices and seasonings sold in California carry a Proposition 65 warning.

A Proposition 65 warning does not mean that a product violates any product safety standard or requirement. It is intended to give California consumers information so they can make their own purchasing decisions.
